Clearing your web browser’s cache, cookies, and history can help fix issues with loading websites or improve performance.
⚠️ Note: Doing this may also remove saved data like:
- Stored passwords
- Address bar suggestions
- Shopping cart contents
If you want to keep some of this information, write it down first.
Quick Shortcut (Desktop Browsers)
Press one of the following while your browser is open:
- Windows:
Ctrl + Shift + Delete
- Mac:
Command + Shift + Delete
This will open the menu to clear browsing data.
If the shortcut doesn’t work, follow the browser-specific steps below.
Instructions by Browser
Google Chrome
- Type
chrome://settings/clearBrowserData
in the address bar. - Click Advanced.
- Check:
- Browsing history
- Download history
- Cookies and other site data
- Cached images and files
- Choose a time range (select All time to clear everything).
- Click Clear Data.
- Close and reopen Chrome.
Mozilla Firefox
- Click the History menu → Clear Recent History.
- If the menu bar is hidden, press
Alt
.
- If the menu bar is hidden, press
- Select a time range (choose Everything for all).
- Under Details, select which items to clear (choose All Items for everything).
- Click Clear Now.
- Close and reopen Firefox.
Microsoft Edge
- Click the Hub icon (three horizontal lines).
- Click the History icon (clock), then choose Clear All History.
- Select:
- Browsing history
- Cookies and saved website data
- Cached data and files
- Click Clear.
- After the “All Clear!” message, close and reopen Edge.
Safari (Mac – version 8 and later)
Quit Safari (Safari → Quit Safari or press Command + Q
).
From the Safari menu, choose Clear History or Clear History and Website Data.
Select a time range.
Click Clear History.
